St Petersburg Forum was set up in 1995 to promote chartable, medical, educational and cultural links between St Petersburg and Scotland and to expand the knowledge of each other’s culture history, language and educational system.
The Forum supports two from around 60 orphanages in the city with almost 6,000 young people in residence.
Orphanage 40 is for 3-7 year olds with eyesight and other physical disabilities
Orphanage 46 is for 7-16 year olds who have limited educational opportunities
The Forum also work with talented students and bring several on a trip to Scotland each year. They are winners of our Scottish Knowledge competitions and since 1995 over 100 young people have visited.
Each year our three music winners attend the Aberdeen International Youth festival in July/August. They then come to Bridge of Weir where this year they will contribute to a concert in St Machar’s Ranfurly Church, Kilbarchan Road, PA11 3EG on Tuesday 8th August at 7.15pm.
The students this year are from the St Petersburg Conservatoire Daria Trofimova – Soprano, Alexander Kazakov – classical accordionist and Tatiana Serova – domra player. They will be accompanied by Mikhail Pavlov (also from St Petersburg) – a professional opera baritone with a double master’s degree from our Conservatoire in Scotland.
