GARNOCK VALLEY BURNS CLUBS
Excursion June 3rd, 2006
Broughton
The burial place of the Reverend Hamilton Paul, a rare example of a contemporary clergyman who appreciated and supported Burns.
Paul's minutes of the first anniversary dinner (or Burns Supper) declare: "In the summer of
1801 a select party of friends of Burns proposed to dine in the Cottage in which he was born, and offer a tribute to the memory of departed genius."
Paul attended subsequent anniversary dinners for a further eighteen years.
